This Math section measures a student's math skills across the entire high school curriculum through the beginning of 12th grade. There are approximately 14 pre-algebra questions, 10 elementary algebra questions, 9 intermediate algebra questions, 14 plane geometry questions, 9 coordinate geometry questions, and 4 elementary trigonometry questions. The questions get progressively more difficult toward the end of the section. Certain types of calculators are allowed on this section of the ACT test.

2.3. Reading section

The ACT Science section is designed to assess the interpretation, analysis, evaluation, reasoning, and problem-solving skills required in the natural sciences. The science test covers biology, chemistry, physics, and earth/space sciences (e.g., geology, astronomy, and meteorology).

Advanced knowledge in these subjects is not required, but candidates will find some general scientific knowledge from introductory science courses is necessary to answer some questions.

The Essay section requires students to respond to a given prompt related to a social issue, and students must analyze three different perspectives presented and indicate how their opinion relates to these perspectives.

Scoring:

The ACT has a composite score (rounded whole number) that ranges from 1 (lowest) to 36 (highest). The composite score is the rounded average of the four required sections of the test (each section also has a score range of 1 to 36).
