Sample 1
Mid-autumn festival is among my country's most celebrated occasions, especially for children. During this festival, the moon is full and often seems enormous.
During this occasion, you'll come across crowds on the streets as commuters often stop by to watch a public lion dance or a dragon dance. They use many kinds of drums to create the melody for the dancers to dance along loudly. Besides the lions and the dragons, there will also be many other characters in myths and folk tales who accompany the animals.
Besides the traditional dances, you can also join the lantern parade during this festival. They light up lanterns of different shapes and sizes, different colors and themes. These lanterns are indeed a work of art as they take much time, effort, and creativity to make. Children usually enjoy making their own lanterns and there are even classes to teach them how. One more thing I want to mention about this festival is that children will get a lot of sweets and snacks – but I am not certain as to why we, as kids, get our candies and stuff.
You may wonder about food on this occasion. Well, we have the mooncake which has become so delicate and sophisticated. The recipes have evolved, now all flavors ranging from chocolate to matcha to even lichie are available.

4.2 Sample essay 2
The Mid-autumn festival was my favorite festival of the year when I was a kid. I had so much fun with my childhood friends on this occasion. We often gather in the community center to make lanterns together and share mooncakes. Since our families make mooncakes of different flavors, we often share them with each other.
Our lanterns back then were very simple and cheap to make, unlike the lanterns you see now. They now come in very sophisticated designs and there are very expensive ones which I think are unnecessary. We used to make them from bamboo and local plants, feathers and lit them up. There was usually a lantern march all across the village where I lived back in the 2000s. We stayed up quite late during this festival to watch the dragon and lion dances. I love how the drums matched perfectly with the dances and the dancers were all wearing very colorful costumes. I used to ask my mother for permission to join the lion dance team in the village but since I was too short, she did not allow me to go.
During mid-autumn festival, my family used to drink tea while gazing at the moon because the moon on that day was always so bright and beautiful.

Our lanterns back then were very simple and cheap, not like the lanterns now. Now lanterns are very elaborate and some are so expensive that I don’t think they are necessary. We used to make lanterns from bamboo and other materials that we had around us like plants and feathers. And we would light them up. There would be lantern parades around the neighborhood where I lived in the 2000s. I liked the way the drums beat rhythmically along with the dancing and the lion dancers wore very colorful costumes. I asked my mother to let me join the lion dance team but she wouldn’t let me because I was quite small.
Mid-autumn festival is no stranger to Vietnamese people. It is said to originate from China but is now one of the major festivals in our own country. People from all parts of the country seriously celebrate mid-autumn festival, especially young children.
But these days, mid-autiumn festival is not only for kids as more and more adults are joining the celebration. For young kids, they enjoy carrying beautiful lanterns around the neighborhood in a group, singing or playing drums while marching through the streets at night. Meanwhile, people often invite lion dancers and dragon dancers to perform at their home because they believe the dances can keep the bad luck away for the rest of their year. The children especially love to watch this traditional dance as the drums are very catchy and the dances are spectacular.
As for adults, I have come to observe that adults in big cities often find a rooftop bar or restaurant on this occasion to gaze at the moon. The moon is especially beautiful on this day, which is worth looking at for hours.
